Today in class we composed our own oragami optimist yacht. We learned to follow instructions, cut very gently and perfectly whilst being careful you place all the right pieces in the right spots. I really enjoyed this activity and am happy with my finished product. There is a picture of my finished product here: -Peti

Optimist yachting
Sailing by Jan Trafford
Key ideas from her article is...
-if you're 8 yrs old you can sail an optimist yacht/dinghy.
-you can tell which way the wind is coming from by feeling the cold parts of your face and neck.
-when the water is warm, that is the best time to flip the boat.
-the knot stops the sheet from slipping through the block.
-you would think it is very hard to learn how to sail a yacht but it is as easy as riding a bike !!
